backup of r/masskillers
I'm not a cop hater by any means. In fact I'd like to be one. but I don't know how they look themselves in the mirror or sleep soundly at night. Taking cover and waiting for backup, while young kids get defenselessly slaughtered.
there are some things worse than death. such as cowardice and dishonor.
The way I think of it is, imagine the fallout if something went wrong? A million different things could go wrong, but less focus on something like him shooting an innocent child.
Imagine you’re there, one cop, and you’re waiting for back up. You’re hearing the shots go off in the school, but your departments rules on this is to wait for back up before engaging. But you ignore it, you rush into school. Now there are kids running around, screaming, kids dying. You think you see someone with a gun, you they ignore you and they run. You chase after them and order them to lay down, they don’t comply. He quickly turns around and, with a quick glance of his hands going for something in his pocket, you fire. You don’t go for the legs or the arm, you do as you’re trained, you shoot for the largest body mass, the chest. You think you’ve got him. The bullet hits the kid. He goes down. But it’s not the school shooter.
So now you’re in a new situation, you’ve ignored your departments rules, you’ve just shot an innocent kid, the back up have arrived and the kids running out of school are saying now there’s two shooters in the school.
Once it is all over, you now have to report to your boss, and explain why you ignored protocol and there’s now an injured kid or a dead one. Your boss is now explaining to the press, why one of their officers took it upon himself to ignore protocols, and then shoot an innocent child.
I’m not saying it will happen this way always, but there’s a reason why protocols exist.
This is a good point I hadn’t considered.
Oh definitely. I fully understand why people would want them to charge in. Hearing stories like the one from Columbine where the Browns said that the cops situated outside the door leading towards to library, could hear the kids getting shot and they did nothing.
I totally understand that people would be angry at that. That day was a total shit show for the police. BUT, you can’t just have any old renegade cop, one day away from retirement, running into a school with their guns blazing.
Protocols exist for a reason.
They seriously need cops in Florida, they will literally hire anything that looks humanoid enough
To the innocent civilians of Broward County who are under this department's jurisdiction, I say:
