Totally out of the loop. What is a ransom demand?
Basically the only witness for the defense is an American psychologist who said that he’ll only testify if the tapes of minassian are never publicly released. Normally the judge could just force a witness to testify but he’s American and they have no jurisdiction over him. So the judge was basically forced to agree to the witness’ request otherwise minassian would have literally no trial.
Sounds like he doesn’t want to have copycats.
> “The way I understand Mr. Minassian’s process to violence, it depended heavily on inspiration from people he watched online. I think Mr. Minassian’s footage could have the same effect on other vulnerable people and could serve as a catalyst for further violence,” Westphal wrote.
The video is of Minassian’s interrogation, so showing it or not wouldn’t really affect the doctor’s reputation because he’s speaking for the defense either way.
I’d like to see the video because using autism as a mental health defense may end up being controversial and I want to see what the doctor saw that made him come to that conclusion.
that's what I thought...sometimes they can't or won't release every detail, because it might have info that future killers would use.
Autism on its own doesn't seem to 'cause' violence, but maybe it's part of his mental health situation.
We might get a transcript of the video eventually. All the useful information and none of the glamour. That would work for me.
I kinda would have liked to have seen the video.
I'd imagine the guy is scared of getting cancelled for testifying on behalf of the defense.
Or he's just a crackpot who doesn't the court to out him to the public as such
Does Yale typically hire a lot of crackpot professors?
I honestly respect that a whole lot and totally agree that those things shouldn't be too publicly available. The power of inspiration is a massive problem with mass killings. So damn over the whole incel thing especially
